Biogas Initiative Side-event at WIREC |

Winrock International participated in the Washington International Renewable Energy Conference (WIREC) held at the Washington Convention Center March 4th through the 6th of this year. Winrock hosted an official side event on behalf of the Biogas Initiative. Dr. Suresh Hurry, Senior Adviser to the Initiative was the speaker for this event. Dr. Hurry’s presentation highlighted the activities of the Initiative over the past year, including, implementation of a national biogas promotion program in Rwanda; ongoing desk and feasibility studies; and consultants held in Ethiopia, Kenya, Senegal, South Africa and Uganda. The presentation was followed by a discussion session. Issues raised included the need for household versus community scale bio-digesters; the importance of marketing through the private sector; the need for the construction process of the biogas digesters to be uniform; and; experiences of similar activities in Nepal and Brazil.
